DANDRUFF TREATMENT

In my last post we discussed What is Dandruff ? Today We go a step ahead.

What are the causes of Dandruff?

  • Exposure to excesses of heat and cold also give way to excessive shedding and dandruff.
  • Excess of perspiration and climatic factors also aid the development of dandruff.
  • Early maturity of cells leads to increased and frequent shedding, which is facilitated by marked production of sebum..
  • A micro organism by the name of ‘Malasezzia’ yeast is also responsible for causing dandruff.
  • Sometimes the condition may develop as a result of allergic reaction with the scalp’s exposure to chemicals.
  • Psychological stress, improperly balanced diet and lack of immunity may also facilitate the growth of dandruff.

Symptoms of Dandruff

  • White flakes of dead skin in the hair and on the shoulders, as well as an itchy, red, or scaly scalp. Common dandruff flakes are usually scattered throughout the scalp.
  • Along with shedding the scalp may be itchy and irritating.
  • At times there may be inflammation of scalp
  • Other than cases of oily scalp, dandruff may give way to loss of hair
  • On account of dandruff one may suffer from social inferiority and depression.
  • Yellowish or reddish scaling can appear on the hairline, in and around the ears, or on the nose and chest. Affected newborn babies may get a thick and crusty rash on the scalp, called cradle cap.

What doesn't help dandruff?

  • Moisturizing: Moisturizing lotions don't do much more than smooth out scales and make patches look redder.
  • Switching antiperspirants: When underarms are red from seborrhea, almost anything will make them redder, including antiperspirants, even though they are only aggravating the seborrhea and not causing it.
  • Switching brands of shampoo: Shampoo doesn't cause dandruff. However, medicated shampoos can help.
  • Changing hair-care routines: There is no "right" shampoo or conditioner, nor is there a "correct" number of times to shampoo per week; seborrhea and dandruff are not caused by excessive shampooing "drying out the scalp." Hair dyes and conditioners do not cause or aggravate dandruff.

    Treating and Preventing Dandruff

    • Try shampooing with a non-medicated shampoo, massaging the scalp firmly, and then rinsing well. Frequent shampooing removes flakes, reduces oiliness, and prevents dead skin cell buildup. If this fails to help, special antidandruff shampoos are usually helpful.
    • When selecting an over-the-counter shampoo, look for antidandruff ingredients such as ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, salicylic acid, sulfur, coal tar, or zinc pyrithione.
    • Shampoos that contain ketoconazole appear to be more effective in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff when compared with other non-prescription medicated shampoos. Salicylic acid preparations are mostly used for dandruff caused by psoriasis, while sulfur and coal tar preparations are generally used for dandruff caused by seborrheic dermatitis.
    • If non-prescription preparations are not successful after 2 weeks, or if the condition worsens, you should consider seeing a doctor. A doctor may prescribe a corticosteroid lotion to be applied to the scalp. Never use corticosteroids for a long period of time without advice from a doctor. They can thin out the skin and cause other side effects.
    • For an infant with cradle cap, apply a small amount of mineral oil to the dry areas of the scalp to soften the scales and then shampoo it out. Then remove the scales by gentle brushing. You can then wash the infant's hair with mild baby shampoo. If these measures do not help, try applying a small amount of warmed mineral oil at bedtime and then shampooing it out in the morning. If this isn't effective, talk to your child's doctor about next steps
    • To help keep dandruff under control, shampoo frequently, reduce your stress levels, try reducing your use of hair products (e.g., gels and sprays), and eat a healthy diet.

 Natural Remedies to Reduce Dandruff

  • Self care regimen can go a long way in assuring relief from dandruff. Equally effective can be the application of natural remedies.
  • Keeping in mind the contagious nature of dandruff it is imperative that one does not use combs used by others. It is always better to have individual sets of combs.
  • Consumption of food enriched with Vitamin B such as whole grains, egg yolk, nuts and cauliflower helps overcome dandruff. At times supplements of Biotin is also helpful.
  • Consumption of food high in their oily content should be avoided along with beverages based on alcohol and carbonated drinks. However consumption of food enriched with Omega 6 fatty acids is helpful from the point of view of curbing the growth of dandruff.
  • Unclean hair lacking in maintenance and proper nourishment aid the growth of dandruff. So cleaning and washing of hair with medicated or herbal shampoo are of immense importance.
  • One should be cautious about the choice of shampoo. It is worth mentioning in this context that egg based shampoo serves to overcome excess flaking.
  • You may purchase or prepare an egg based shampoo by combining egg and water.
  • After washing of hair, it is important that you pat it dry as moisture serves to breed dandruff.
  • According to naturopathic mode of treatment, paste of fenugreek helps overcome the itchy scales of dandruff, when applied to scalp.
  • Rinsing hair with water soaking or boiling neem leaves is also advantageous from the point of view of dandruff.
  • Equally useful is the application of cider vinegar followed by washing the scalp after an hour.
  • Topical use of tea oil is also advantageous with four to five drops of the same being added to your shampoo meant for washing the dandruff prone scalp. Besides tea oil, flaxseed oil and oil enriched with Vitamin E can also be added to an egg based shampoo for washing the dandruff stricken scalp.

DANDRUFF TREATMENT

Hi Guys,Today as I waked up Early Morning ,I have seen my friends talking about Dandruff and so they can't losse their Hair,as everyone can see their dandruff allover their hair. So,my bulblighed and todays topic is Dandruff.

So what is Dandruff really?
Dandruff is a kind of skin disorder that affects the scalp. Dandruff is a condition in which white, dry flakes of dead skin are shed from the scalp. Normally dead skin cells are shed from the scalp, but it results in dandruff only when the scalp starts shedding thick layers of these dead skin particles.
We call Dandruff as Seborrheic dermatitis or Seborrhoea sometimes.Seborrheic dermatitis or Seborrhoea is a disorder of the sebaceous glands which affects the scalp. Seborrhoea produces severe dandruff and a red, itchy scalp.

Did Dandruff causes Hair Loss or Baldness?
As much as I know not really.Dandruff rarely causes hair loss or baldness but severe seborrheic dermatitis may cause patchy baldness.Often, scalp seborrhea doesn't even itch significantly.

When It Really Starts in Human?
Dandruff can appear during infancy, starting shortly after birth and lasting several months. It may affect the scalp ("cradle cap") or produce scaly patches on the body. Adults of all ages may develop Dandruff, too, especially on the scalp and face.

Other than Scalp,in which part of body do Dandruff can appear?
It occurs in parts of the body with high oil (sebum) production. Body areas that are commonly affected include the scalp, ears, face, chest, and folds of skin, such as the underarms or the skin below breasts or overhanging abdominal folds. The cause of seborrhea is unknown.
On the face, seborrhea produces reddish-brown, dry-looking, or thick, greasy scales on the eyebrows, sides of the nose, and behind the ears. Reddish, scaly patches may also appear in the folds of skin mentioned above. Although skin affected by seborrhea may feel "dry," moisturizing only makes them redder.

Is Health a problem for Dandruff?
Some people who have weakened immune systems, such as those on chemotherapy or those with HIV disease or certain neurological disorders, may have very severe Dandruff. The vast majority of those who have it are completely healthy and have no internal or immune problems.

Tell me a Treatment to avoid Dandruff?
Since dandruff is a natural process it cannot be eliminated, it can only be controlled. The most simple treatment is frequent and effective shampooing of the hair and the scalp. Mild dandruff can be treated by regularly shampooing the scalp with a mild, non-medicated shampoo. If this does not help, a medicated dandruff shampoo can be used. Shampoos containing cytostatic agent, such as selenium sulphide or zinc pyrithione can be used. Shampoos containing selenium sulphide should not be used if there is a cut or abrasion on the scalp. Other ingredients in the shampoos that treat dandruff are coal tar preparartions, salicylic acid, sulfur and a combination of salicylic acid and sulphur. Nizoral AD, is a shampoo that specifically targets P.ovale and treats flaking and itching caused by it.

Hair Growth

In Our first Post We talked about Hair Problems. Now Lets talk about our Hair Growth.

  1.  Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish : Since hair is made of protein, make sure you're getting plenty of protein in your diet. Some proteins to consider incorporating into your diets like lean meats such as chicken and turkey, fish, eggs, soy products, beans, and nuts. These foods will help promote healthy keratin production, which are the building blocks of hair.
  2. Eat the right kinds of fat: Fats will help you process the vitamins and minerals in your diet that are necessary for healthy hair production, including Vitamins A, D, E, and K.Omega 3 fats, found in marine and plant oils, are good for healthy hair. For this reason, B-complex tablets containing fish oils are helpful in speeding up the growth of hair follicles.
  3. Get enough vitamin C : .The body cannot make vitamin C on its own,so you need to eat and drink foods that have high concentrations of vitamin C.Vitamin C deficiencies cause can make hair that is weak, lusterless, and prone to breakage.Your body uses vitamin C to build collagen, which is crucial in developing hair growth. Vitamin C also assists in breaking down iron,so maintaining good levels of vitamin C is necessary to absorb iron Cantaloupe, citrus fruits, broccoli, bell peppers, and spinach are all fantastic and great-tasting foods that are packed with vitamin C.
  4. Make sure you're getting enough iron and zinc : Iron and zinc, along with other vitamins, are essential in creating great, healthy hair.Lean animal meats are great ways to get iron, but if you're vegetarian, consider eating beans, lentils, and soy products Zinc assists in the repair of your tissues, making sure that the oil glands around your follicles are working in the proper way. Get your zinc by eating oysters, low-fat roast beef, toasted wheat germ, roasted pumpkin and squash seeds, dark chocolate, and cocoa powder.
  5. Clean your hair regularly and carefully : You don't need to shampoo and condition every day, as this will suck out the natural oils present in your hair. Use the right products when cleaning your hair. Depending on how oily your hair is, shampoo and condition your hair only about 3-4 times per week. Those with curly, coarse, or dry hair may want to wash their hair only 2-3 times weekly, as natural oils are key for strong and healthy hair. People who have oily skin probably want to wash their hair more than the 3-4 per week average, as a buildup of oil can be harmful to growth.Choose products that contain ingredients that are healthy for hair. Ingredients like avocado, coconut, jojoba, and olive are all beneficial when used in moderation. They help retain moisture and oils while minimizing split ends and other hair damage.
  6. Limit using Brush and comb: Brushing your hair to excess can actually pull hairs out of the scalp.Your hair is especially vulnerable when it's wet, so it's best to wait until its dry before you take a wide-toothed comb to go through your hair.
  7. Excessive styling can hurt your hair : Certain chemical applications and cleansers may cause thinning, damage or even hair loss if improperly used.Style your hair in isolation, but repeated styling can exacerbate damage to hair
  8.  Don't use rubber bands or pin to style the hair back : If you need to pull your hair back and pin it up, use a hair tie. The hair tie won't cause the hair to get stuck on its surface as much and lodge it from its roots.
  9. Plan how often you get your hair cut : How often you should cut your hair depends on how healthy it is and how fast you want it to grow; it is totally up to your own judgement.Normal hair grows anywhere from 1/2 inch - 5/8 inch per month. Most stylists recommend getting a hair cut every 6-10 weeks.
  10. Try not to repeatedly chemically or mechanically straighten, curl, bleach, perm, crimp or color hair : Excessive heat, in either blow-drier or flat-iron form, can singe the hair, so try to manually dry your hair whenever possible.
  11. Stay away from Stress : Stress plays an important role in hair growth. When your body has enough nutrients and energy stored up ,it doesn't need to focus on simply keeping you alive, it can devote resources to build up and protect your hair. But can cause the body to go into a kind of survival mode in which it only produces things vital to bodily survival. During these times, hair production may stop.
  12. Clear emotional stress from your life : Exercise is a great way to release pent-up stress. Jogging, swimming, lifting light weights, or even walking is part of a healthy lifestyle. It will help your body process foods and vitamins, sleep better, and reduce large amounts of stress.
  13. Promote hair growth with natural home remedies and store-bought remedies :

Hair Problems

Hi Friends today I have gone through some sites.Hair problem is one of the major Problem in our life, some have thick hair ,some have thin hair, some have rough but everyone has same problem Hair Fall.I got Something Interesting :

Hair Tonic

1) The tonic has to be applied to the scalp only.

2) As it is a water based tonic, it will evaporate on its own. No need to rinse/shampoo it.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml water

    4 bay leaves

    3 hibiscus flowers

    Handful hibiscus leaves

    Handful of basil leaves

Method

Take a pan and add water. Let it simmer.

Now add all the other ingredients and bring it to a boil.

Cover it and let it brew till it turns a pinking green hue. Allow it to rest.

Strain it once it cools down.

HAIR PACK

BANANA HAIR PACK (dry hair): mash 2 bananas and 2 tsp honey and apply on hair for half an hour and shampoo off after thirty minutes for soft and shiny hair.

BANANA HAIR PACK : Take the peel of three bananas and add 1 egg and 2 tea spoon of shikakai and apply to the hair and scalp for thirty minutes. Shampoo off normally.

Tips:

•  Massage the hair with a combination of pure almond oil and castor oil and
steam the hair. This should be done twice a week.

•  After massaging the hair make the following hair pack: 2 tsp each of amla, reetha and shikakai, fenugreek, triphala and brahmi powder. Mix with 2 eggs and apply all over the hair. Leave on for 30-40 minutes. This should ideally be done after oiling hair and twice a week, you will see the results within 2 weeks.

•  Diet plays an important role in good skin and hair and although most people know about a well balanced diet, very few balance it just the right way.

•  Take lots of raw foods...carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, celery, spinach, cauliflower, lots of fruits and plenty of green vegetables and dairy products like milk, paneer, curd, cheese, etc.

•  The use of henna thickens and conditions hair and also acts as a natural dye. Believe me it is safer to use henna than any chemical dye which always has the fear of severe illness like cancer.

•  You may not believe it but a regular exercise program also helps the hair growth. This is because increase in blood circulation helps to remove the toxins in the body through perspiration. Work out an exercise program for yourself atleast 3 times a week and feel the difference in your hair.

•  Taking multi-vitamins is also essential as many times internal weakness or the diet that we take is insufficient and leads to hair fall. I would recommend the intake of chyavanprash, especially in winters as it has a high content of Vitamin C being amla based.

•  Dandruff is also dangerous and leads to hair loss, control it at its early stages and you will not suffer as much. Avoid using someone else's combs and brushes and disinfect your hair tools with dettol. Shampoo in warm water once a week to avoid fungus and other infections.

•  If you suffer from dandruff, massage your hair with warm coconut oil and apply the juice of 2 lemons, steam your hair and leave the oil on for about 2 hours. Shampoo with a mild shampoo. This should be done 2-3 times a week.

•  Drink atleast 10-12 glasses of water daily as this helps flush out accumulated toxins in the body.

•  Avoid sugary foods, fried foods and too much spice in your food.

•  Stress...today's biggest killer leads to severe hair loss. Worry, depression and tension are all inter related and I very often find that we really have no time at all for ourselves and work like robots. Take out time to relax. Believe me this is very important. Take up a hobby, listen to music, read but for God's sake don't become a couch potato in front of the T.V. or computer. Its bad for your eyes and many times I find people who are really stressed out just flicking channels, without really watching any program at all. Get to the root of your problems believe me there is no use of worrying about them as this will only create more depression and in turn more hair fall.

•  Never brush or comb dripping wet hair, this also leads to hair fall, wait until the hair has naturally dried a little and then comb out with a wide toothed comb. Avoid the use of heated rollers and too much of the hair dryer.

•  Chemical colors and dyes are a total disaster for the hair, avoid them at all cost, it is well worth graying gracefully with hair on the head then worrying about balding.

•  If you have recently suffered from an illness or have had a surgery or even a baby, you will experience hair loss and so you could see your doctor who can put you onto the right sort of diet and vitamins that your body requires.

Try to follow may be hair fall stopsssss...
